Staff members of the Illinois First Amendment Center:

David Bennett has served as Executive Director of the Illinois Press Association (IPA) since May 1985. Prior to working for the IPA, Bennett was Executive Director of the Oregon Newspaper Publishers Association from 1981 to 1985, and was an associate professor in the Department of Journalism at Northern Arizona University from 1974 to 1981. Earlier work experience includes journalism instruction positions at Mankato (Minnesota) State University and Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville; newspaper work at the Mankato Free Press, and the Durango (Colorado) Herald; and two teaching positions at Ohio high schools. Bennett received a B.A. in English from Miami University of Ohio; an M.A. from the University of Oklahoma in journalism; and a Ph.D. in journalism and education from University of Oklahoma.

Sue Montalvo joined the Illinois First Amendment Center (IFAC) as Director on February 1, 2005. Sue has a B.S. degree in education from Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville. Prior to joining the IFAC, Sue served as a Public Service Administrator for the Illinois Department of Human Services. In this capacity, she worked as a trainer, online education coordinator, and conference & meeting planner. Sue’s past work experience also includes teaching K-12 and coaching in the public school system, working as an official court reporter in the 20th Judicial Circuit, St. Clair County, Illinois, in both the Civil and Criminal Divisions, and operating her own freelance court reporting firm.
Amanda Mibb joined the Illinois First Amendment Center as Program Specialist on January 8, 2007. She has a B.A. in Communications from the University of Illinois at Springfield. Prior to joining IFAC, she worked as Accounts Coordinator for Great Plains Advertising, LLC where she managed various advertising, marketing and public relations projects for clients in the private and public sectors.
